Alterations & Mending

$ Varies, each job priced individually.

I do many types of alterations and repairs but I do NOT do formal wear, bridal or suits. All jobs I will discuss with you prior to accepting to ensure I can complete the work to your satisfaction. If I can not, I will be honest with you.

For alterations, a fitting is required at drop off and a try on required at pick up, to ensure satisfaction before I get paid. This is generally not necessary for repairs and mending, of course.

It costs nothing to ask. See the “Contact” button at the top of the page to get in touch with me. Let’s see how I can help.

Class: Machine Basics and More

$40 (1 hr)

Honestly, you can’t sew if you’re afraid of the machine. Or overwhelmed by different thread and needle choices. Or a million other things that can make us feel overwhelmed in the beginning.

If it’s your first machine. Or a new machine. Or a specialty machine. Modern or vintage. Mechanical or computerized. Sewing, quilting, embroidery. Serger or coverstitch. I know more about some machines than others but enough about (almost) anything out there to get you started, where ever your starting point happens to be.

*I do not teach industrial machines, long arm quilting or multi needle embroidery. I will give guidance for basic care of a machine, I do not teach maintenance or repair.

Class: Sewing 101

$40 (1 hr)

In this class, we talk about and practice universal techniques that are useful no matter when type of sewing you intend to do. We work on really learning how to be safe with our machine and tools. We learn tricks for consistency and problem solving.

For this class, it’s okay if you don’t have a specific type of sewing to want to do in mind. But if you are really excited about something in particular (quilting, mending, garment making, etc.) then I’ll let the lesson lean heavier to your particular interest.

$40 (1hr)

In this class, we focus specifically on garment (or costume) sewing. We talk about fabrics, needle types, stitch types and specialty feet. We talk about sewing patterns, how to read them. These classes are customized. Everyone is different. Some folks are happy with 1 class to learn some basics and then they’re off and running. Some folks want to work through a simple project, start to finish.

Class: Intro to Garment Sewing

$40 (1hr)

In this class, we focus specifically on quilting. Understanding materials you might consider using. Tools specific to quilting. Techniques for pressing, pinning and sewing for consistency. We’ll talk about resources that help quilters with planning, to save time on fabric cutting and more. There’s LOTS to the world of quilting and we’ll go over a lot pretty quickly.

Classes for Mending & Repair

$40 - $60 (3 different options)

60 minute “Crash Course” - With this lightening quick approach, you’ll learn some utter basics. We do machine & tool knowledge very quickly. We talk about a few needle & thread choices. Then we talk through some common mending and repair considerations. Mostly, you’re getting enough knowledge to go home and say “I think I can do this.”($45)

60 minute “Skill Builder” - With this one, you already have some sewing or sewing machine knowledge. Maybe you’ve taken some other beginner classes from me. Or perhaps you’re a quilter looking to use your sewing skills in new ways. Or whatever it might be, we spend more of our class time on practical techniques. This “Mend & Repair: Skill Builder” class can be repeated $45

90 minute “Beginner & Skill Builder” - If you’re new to sewing AND want to focus on learning to sew for purposes of mending and repairing, feel free to start with this option! We’ll do this as a combo & condensed version of my “Machine Basics” & “Sewing 101” lessons using actual items that do need repair. If you have items you want to work with, great! If not, I’ll provide some pieces for us to use for practice.

$40 (1hr)

We’ll talk about needles and threads ideal for machine embroidery. We’ll talk about choosing the right stabilizers. We’ll walk through the basics of choosing and stitching out a basic design. We’ll go over some of the editing choices built into the machines software. For machine embroidery class, my knowledge is a bit more limited than some other areas. As such, I’ll focus on the building a strong foundation of basic knowledge. Then I’ll provide some info to direct you to further support you on your journey.
