About Me

Hello! I’m Alexis. I’ve been sewing, to some degree or another, since I was 10 years old. Yes, that’s over 30 years I’ve been stitching something or another. In late 2023, my husband and I decided to make a big change and take his company up on an opportunity that resulted in us relocating to the other side of the country. From outside of Seattle, WA to outside of Charleston, SC. This change left me an opportunity of my own….

And I decided to do something scary. Start a business. It’s ALL ON ME. Everything. Goodness, it is uncomfortable! But, well, it’s what I have to do to follow my passion. Which is, basically, all things sewing.

Especially beginner sewists! Anyone who is just starting out. Or getting back to it. Or trying a new “type” of sewing. Because that scary “oh gosh, I have no idea what I am doing” feeling can hit us at any point. My favorite thing about working in a sewing machine shop before we moved was teaching. It was nice to help someone find the right machine to buy and the commission from a sale didn’t hurt. But it was them learning to use their new machine that made the days fun!

What about alterations? And repairs. And other sewing services. I mean, I offer those services. Am I passionate about that, as well? Goodness, no! I am confident no sane person has ever said “oh goody, I can’t wait to hem those pants!” I’ll be honest, that’s about money. Haha.

That’s a little about me. Thanks for reading!

FAQs

FAQs:

1. Do you offer classes for kids?

Absolutely! I do approach things a little different for children than adults. For older kids (12+), I do not require parents to stay. But parents are absolutely welcome to stay! For kids 9-12, a parent or sibling 14 years or older must stay for the lesson. Children as young as 6 can take lessons, though it is on a case by case basis. I know I have some kiddos in my life who would do just fine as young as 6 and others who would...well, not so much. For lessons with these youngest kiddos, parents must be present and engaged with the lesson to ensure the parent can support a safe sewing environment at home.

2. Do you have pets or smoke in your home?

Nope. No pets. We don't smoke. And we're a mostly fragrance free home. If you have strong fragrance sensitivities, let me know. I'll make sure there is to avoid using fragrant cleaners or lotions before you come. And will swap soaps to fragrance free in the bathroom, in case you need to wash your hands at any point.

3. I want to take a class but I don't have XY or Z?

That's okay! I (almost certainly) have it. Maybe you want to "test" sewing as a new hobby or interest before investing hard earned money. Maybe you're buying your "stuff" slowly, bit by bit. Maybe you want advice before you invest. Okay to all of it! If you want to start learning to sew, we will figure it out!

4. Is your space...welcoming?

Yes! Let me be clear. My business is located within my home. It is safe and welcoming for all. The moment a person decides to make me feel unsafe or uncomfortable in my business and home, we're done. But there really shouldn't be any issues. Religion, politics, are oysters delicious or disgusting....none of that is relevant to sewing. There is no reason for it to come up.

5. Is your business accessible?

Sorta! My primary space is upstairs. But I can accomodate lessons and alterations appointments, as needed, on the first floor. We're still looking at a couple steps into the space that I can't make go away. As much as possible, I will do what I reasonably can to accomodate students and clients.

6. How do I pay you?

Alterations, sewing services and project help is paid upon statisfaction. I will not take on anything I am not confident I can complete and I will not accept payment unless you are happy.

For classes, payment is upfront, before class happens. Frankly, I have been "ghosted" by folks in the past. If folks put some skin in the game, like paying, they're less likely to forget. Or choose to simply never show up.

Payment is accepted via Venmo or cash (though Venmo is preferred).

7. How "legit" are you?

Fully liscensed! I am a proper LLC, liscensed with the county as a business operating in unincorporated Dorchester County, SC. I have an EIN and pay taxes and everything! Fun!
